PERFORMANCE MODS!!

Note: The Mods Listed Have Install Instructions In The MODS Section.

ENGINE MODS

This is the stock 3.0 Vulcan

Things Covered:

Cap + Rotor
Spark Plugs Gapped To .05
Plug Wires
K&N With Custom Intake
Hoodscoop
Dual Exhaust
Removing Resonator
Advancing Timing
Accel Ignition Coil
TCCA Intake
Crankcase Ventillator
CAP AND ROTOR

The car, when I got it, was in crappy condition. The performance cap and rotor were put on to make the car run normally. I chose a performance set because I knew I would be modding the car.

This is a shot of my cap + rotor.

SPARK PLUGS

Again, I got Beru Silverstone plugs when I first got the car. The Beru plugs were highly rated, and I must agree. They are good plugs. I recently regapped them for the higher timing.

SPARK PLUG WIRES

Again, I got these to make the car run nice, and they were performance because I knew I'd be modding later.

This is a pic of my wires.

K&N FILTERCHARGER W/ CUSTOM INTAKE

I decide to finally start adding real power. I decided the first real mod would be a K&N filtercharger with my homemade intake. The intake consisted of a dryerduct setup. I later realized how restrictive to airflow the "ruffled" effect was on the intake, so I designed the TCCA intake, explained later.

This is a pic of the old intake.

HOOD SCOOP

With the K&N in place, and the car a teeny more sporty, I thought about all that hot air under the hood. The K&N would work MUCH better with cold air. So to solve this dilemma, I bought a hoodscoop from JC Whitney for $12.00, and installed it. The result was a cooler engine, more power, and a cooler looking car.

This is the scoop. When these were taken, I hadn't sanded and painted it yet (I'm still not done!)

DUAL EXHAUST / REMOVING RESONATOR

With all that taken care of, I decided it was exhaust work time! I decided to take my car to a local muffler shop. First, I had him replace the stock muffler with a Flowmaster Resonated Straight Pipe muffler. The result was a little more noise, thats it. Then I decided to have the resonator removed. The resonator, when replaced with a straight pipe, made the car much louder, deeper, and gave some more kick. Then I decided to make the final step, and went back for a dual exhaust. I had him use what he already did, and sprout me off another exhaust with another Flowmaster Resonated Straightpipe muffler. The result was a much nicer sounding and looking car. It gave again, a teeny boost in power. The total jobs cost me somewhere around $300.

This is a pic of my dual exhaust.

ADVANCED TIMING

With the car sounding good, it just wasn't fast enough. I decided to go for the timing advance. This is great. It's free, and adds 5-10 horsepower (more towards 5). When I turned it up, OH MY GOD it made a hell of a difference. I found out that my timing was set at 6 DEGREES! The stock setting is 8!! So, with it on 12 now, the car is much more responsive and speedy.

ACCEL COIL

With all the mods I've done, and the timing and so forth, I decided I wanted to make sure the car was getting the full power from the ignition system. This again made a small difference, but it was noticeable none-the-less.

This is a pic of my coil. Note the home install job. I didn't get a bracket!

TCCA INTAKE / CRANK VENTILATOR

The homemade intake I made was better than stock, but not that great. The "ruffles" in the tube I had was restricting airflow alot. So, I had this intake designed and slapped it on. It worked wonders! I noticed a major increase in power, because of the more air being used by the engine. The best part is that this is only $40! With it, I put on a K&N crank ventilator because there's no place to plug the wire into on this.

This is a pic of the new TCCA Intake.
